Regionals!!!

We spent last weekend in Quincy, Illinois. Scott and I both grew up in central Illinois but have never had a reason to go to Quincy until now. Quincy is just shy of 3 hrs. straight west of Decatur sitting on the Mississippi River which divides IL and MO. This was the location of our Regional Swim Meet this year. There were 5 regional meets taking place this past weekend in 5 different areas of the state.

We always try to take advantage of the areas we visit...this time we enjoyed a wonderful restuarant called The Pier. It cantelivered out over a piece of the river. This section of the water had several Bald Eagles nesting in the area. So ~ via the binoculars provided by the restuarant, we all enjoyed watching the eagles. Pretty neat stuff! Another fun highlight was visiting a 160 yr. old church for a Sat. evening service. The service was at 4:30 - a strange time for a Sat. service. After arriving, we were told why 4:30. They move the time up an hour during the winter months so the elderly church goers can get home before dark! The church was beautiful with a spier stretching 235 ft. into the sky. The service and people were wonderful too! The service had approx. 50 people, 45 of them 65 and over. Our kids were the highlight of their day! Those folks gathered around our kids like flies on a cow patty!

The weekend was a success. Allie placed 6th at regionals in the 50 breaststroke. This was her first time she had a regional cut to make this her first regional meet and first trip to the potium at a championship meet! Way to go Allie! Mason had several trips to the potium, including two 2nd place and one 1st place (50 breaststroke, like Sissy) He also received his second state cut this meet, in that 50breaststroke, so he will be competing at the State Meet in a couple of weeks. The kids have all worked very hard and we are pleased with their efforts and results!

All three of the kids enjoyed the weekend, hanging out with their teammates. We have wonderful families involved with our swim club and enjoy spending time with them on swim weekends!
