Winter Wonderland

We received a blanket of beautiful snow this past weekend. It put us in the Christmas spirit. . . but put a damper on our weekend plans (and knocked out our satellite for 4 days - no computer!). Allie and Maggie had auditioned in Sept. for the traveling Moscow Russian Nutcracker ballet. They both got parts (Allie an angel and Maggie a snowflake). They had been practicing for 3 mos., only to have the performance cancelled this weekend because the company could not get out of Kansas City due to the heavy snowfall in the Midwest. There were some tears of disappointment shed at our house on Sat. morning when we got that phone call. Some quick action on our part to "refocus" the girls attention elsewhere. . . We made appointments for junior pedicures and manicures followed by an evening of hosting some of our family favorites: Uncle Shelby, Aunt Kate and even cousins Sarah and Howie (from Indy. who had come to IL for the Nutcracker). Sat. evening we had a fun night of crackling fire, food and fun games! Uncle Shelby and Maggie duked it out in a mean game of battleship and we all had fierce battles on the Wii and at ping-pong and foosball. The Nutcracker was soon put to the back of every one's minds. A FUN time was had by all!!!
